Sätsuhi te 'Awtìrey Ualzi'ite

[seh-tsu-hee ow-tih-ray oo-al-zee ee-teh]

A skilled warrior and hunter, Sätsuhi learned how to aim a bow from the second she could walk. She followed her mother's footsteps from an early age, grasping onto the wisps of respect that her mother, also a revered hunter, left in her wake. Since then, Sätsuhi has earned her own respect amongst those in the clan, providing protection and sustenance without fail. For those who are close to her, Sätsuhi is rather charismatic and is known to be rather chatty and witty, quick to throw a joke like a trap of joy. However, to those who are unfamiliar, Sätsuhi is never the first to speak; rather, she observes and picks apart one's character to find a motive. Those who meet her often describe her as a palulukan stalking through the grass before they get to see her colorful personality, like an unassuming kenten. Though analytical and observant, Sätsuhi leans more towards "shoot first, ask questions later" when it comes to uncertain characters. Despite this, her judgement has provided helpful insight to her clan on numerous occasions. When she isn't a hunter or standing guard, Sätsuhi is an adventurer at heart. She enjoys exploring the woods of her home and flying high across the sky on her ikran, Upxila. Sätsuhi follows what the clan needs, but will speak her mind when her heart decides to beat a different rhythm than the chorus.

with whomHowever, concern settled deep within Sätsuhi when the olo'eyktan, Ka'le, chose her to be the mate of his son, Atan, who Sätsuhi had grown up with since birth. Many congratulated her for this; after all, it is a great honor to be chosen for such a thing and puts a light on her skills as a member of the clan. However, Sätsuhi didn't want this. Though Atan was a fine candidate for a mate, she did not view him in such a light and had hoped to find her mate in her own time. Though Sätsuhi felt inclined to express her disagreements, having trust of this extent instilled in her by the olo'eyktan was something she was not inclined to break. With little else to turn to, Sätsuhi put her faith in Eywa's will, that this was a part of the great plan. Her faith, however, didn't make it any less difficult; she still finds herself reluctant to be with Atan in any given situation now that their relationship has evolved from childhood best friends to future mates.

Ualzi te Sutite Komote'ite
Relation: Mother
Age: 43
Status: Deceased
Ualzi was a warrior and hunter for the Uk'ìheyu. Many sang her praises or told her stories to children as cautionary tales or for entertainment. The Uk'ìheyu children adored her and waited eagerly for her return after every hunting trip, curious to hear a tale or see if she had found something interesting.
Ualzi had Sätsuhi when she was 27, Vo'an when she was 35, and Lelu when she was 41. Each of her children was raised with a strong heart and free spirit, having nurtured their growth alongside her beloved mate, Asahe. Though they were quite the opposite of one another, Ualzi enjoyed Asahe's quiet nature and observant behaviors, while Asahe took kindly to her charming personality, her sharp wit, and the sparkle in her eyes.
Sätsuhi walked behind in her footsteps with the dream of being a hunter close behind her. However, Ualzi died when Sätsuhi was just 16, Vo'an 8, and Lelu only 2. Ualzi had left with her hunting group, never to return. It was assumed that she had passed from an animal attack, a noble death for the Uk'ìheyu. She was a strong woman, and the weight of her and the other hunter's absence was felt across the clan as the days and weeks passed with no return. Her memory now lives in the minds of others, in the stories they tell, and on the murals within Hometree.

Asahe te 'Awtìrey Nirit'itan
Relation: Father
Age: 64
Status: Alive
Asahe is a bit of a quiet man. He is a dyer and has always been the type to stand on the edge of social gatherings. Despite this, his abilities to craft were well known, though he, as a Na'vi, was not. He didn't even have an ikran of his own, being too far gentle-hearted to climb the Iknimaya to claim his own ikran. He wasn't a hunter or warrior anyhow, any explorations he made would be on foot.Because of this, it came as a surprise that Ualzi, one of the clan's most outgoing members, had taken a liking to him. She had asked him to create a certain color for one of her fabrics, which he did so flawlessly on the first try. Ualzi insisted on asking about every step of the process, which surprised Asahe, but he was flattered and nervously agreed. This interaction was what sparked their love for one another, and Asahe opened up to Ualzi in a way he had for no other.Asahe became a strong supporter of Ualzi, and they mated not too long after. They raised their children in perfect harmony, pushing them to neither one nor the other when it came to deciding whether they wanted to hunt or to be a dyer.Ualzi's death was heavy on Asahe's heart. Losing a mate is a heavy pain, but he continued to raise his children as he always had, refusing to let this loss be any heavier a burden than it already was.Sätsuhi is not as close to her father as Vo'an and Lelu are. Following Ualzi's death, they gravitated more towards being dyers out of fear of facing the same fate as their mother.

Vo'an te 'Awtìrey Asahe'itan
Age: 15
Status: Alive
Vo'an is the typical rowdy younger brother. He gets on both Sätsuhi and Lelu's nerves and aims to be the biggest annoyance you could think of. Despite his antics, he is secretly a sweetheart who gathers little trinkets or pretty flowers for his sisters if he sees them while out looking around in the forest for dye resources with his father. Sätsuhi is protective of both him and Lelu, something that Vo'an will complain about, though he secretly appreciates it down deep. Though the Uk'ìheyu put great emphasis on taming ikrans, he has yet to tame his own. Once he does, however, he can expand his search area for dye resources. He always said he would be brave enough to tame an ikran, though he still clings to Sätsuhi when they fly together.Sätsuhi has watched Vo'an grow up into a sweet young man, though he still has a bit more growing up to do, considering all the jokes and pranks he pulls.

Lelu te 'Awtìrey Ualzi'ite
Relation: Sister
Age: 8
Status: Alive
Lelu is a young and bright spirit, but is usually found shying away behind her father's legs. Having lost her mother far too young to remember her, Lelu looks up to Sätsuhi as both an older sister and a mother figure. Her only memories of her are idealized versions of her from the stories her siblings or father would tell. The one real memory is the mere whispers of a hunter's lullaby that her mother sang to her and a hazy image of a beautiful Na'vi woman with a sweet voice.Lelu is a bit more timid than her siblings, always one who follows her father when she can, or the den mother who looks after the children during the day. Though quiet like her father, Lelu has a creative mind, and Asahe suspects that she would much prefer being a painter than a dyer, but he is waiting for her to come up to that conclusion on her own.

Atan te Tiyavi Ka'le'itan
Relation: Betrothed
Age: 25
Status: Alive
Atan is the son of Ka'le and is on the path to becoming the next olo'eyktan. He is a bit of a stiff young man, though as a child, he was rather playful and mischievous. As he got older, however, he became a bit more withdrawn and serious for his future role as olo'eyktan.Atan and Sätsuhi have been friends since they were little ones. They grew up learning the ways of the clan and hunting together, sometimes taking down a talioang together. To put it simply, they were best friends and inseparable, with Koranu accompanying to mix things up. It was when Ka'le claimed Sätsuhi as his betrothed at 24 that the nature of their relationship changed rapidly. An idealized reality of having Sätsuhi as his mate took hold, and he fell in love with her before the next day. This brought a bit of disappointment to Sätsuhi, who thought that Atan would stand beside her in the fact that they were simply friends. Since then, Sätsuhi has felt alone in her dislike of the thought of being Atan's mate and feels that she has lost a friend in Atan.Though Atan is a bit bullheaded, he has an undying loyalty to his mother and father. He is closer to his mother, making him into a mama's boy, but that's more of a secret that he refuses to tell.

Koranu te Menit Morutey'ite
Relation: Best Friend
Age: 24
Status: Alive
Koranu is an energetic woman who speaks so fast that it feels like she is speaking another language, more than actual Na'vi. Luckily, she and Sätsuhi grew up together and fit beside one another as though they were sisters, so Sätsuhi understands her more than most. When they were younger, they were always playing together and oftentimes accompanied by Atan. It wasn't uncommon for them to get into trouble, much like any other young Na'vi.Though the two girls had very different passions and interests, they never grew apart. Sätsuhi would tell Koranu about her recent hunts, and Koranu would show Sätsuhi her recent projects. They would often trade their skills. Anything Sätsuhi found when she was on a faraway hunt, she would bring back for Koranu to weave and create with, and that creation would be Sätsuhi's.Their partnership knows no bounds, and though times have been tough, the two have never drifted. Even as adults, the two still take the time to braid each other's hair or gossip in the confines of Koranu's workshop or on the branch of a lone tree.

Ka'le te Tiyavi Sonak'itan
Relation: Uk'ìheyu olo'eyktan
Age: 70
Status: Alive
Ka'le is a strong olo'eyktan. He has a heavy presence within the Uk'ìheyu and surrounding areas. An aura of confidence and wisdom sheds off him when he enters a room, as well as his strong desire for progress for the Uk'ìheyu. He is the kind to wait before speaking, to take his time before making a decision, and to wait until he fully understands the situation at hand. This is also why he saw Sätsuhi as a good candidate for his son, as they share this trait.Ka'le always viewed Sätsuhi as his own, considering how close his son was with her growing up, which is why their relationship is much closer than most in the clan.Ka'le earned much of the clan's approval from a young age. He successfully defended them from a nomadic tribe that tried to drive them from their Hometree despite trying to welcome them into the Uk'ìheyu. After what was supposed to be a peaceful meeting between them and the nomads, the nomads initiated an ambush. Despite having little to no preparation, Ka'le was able to rally his warriors and devise a plan to protect their Hometree. Though they successfully protected their home, a ceremony was held for the fallen warriors on both sides. This incident is called the Day of Shadows.

Yana te Keyva Mowovo'ite
Relation: Uk'ìheyu Tsahìk
Age: 67
Status: Alive
Yana is an intriguing character. She comes off as eccentric, sometimes even a bit aloof, but her guidance as tsahìk is trusted throughout the entire clan. She is kind to those she meets, but members of the Uk'ìheyu know that she is not to be messed with. Her understanding of the will of Eywa is as eccentric as she is, but it often leads to good fortune. Her time spent with Eywa is what earned her such impeccable English skills. With other Na'vi learning English and connecting to Eywa, Yana has been able to learn English through her frequent communions with Eywa as well. She has the most fluent speech out of the Uk'ìheyu, so much so that she's found personal entertainment in speaking in rhyme. Why? Just because, really.Yana was chosen by Ka'le to mate with him. At first, they were going to lead the clan together, but only as leaders, not as a mated pair. However, Yana's somewhat strange personality drew Ka'le in. She was off-putting, perhaps even a bit scary, but Ka'le found himself fond of her, and they mated before Eywa. When he and Yana were in their 40s, they had Atan, their only son.

The Uk'ìheyu Clan

Uk: shadow
ìheyu: spiral
The Uk'ìheyu are proud riders of the ikran. They are known for being swift in the air and forging strong bonds with their ikrans that other clans tend to envy. The Uk'ìheyu clan's Hometree sits upon a mountain, its roots standing firm in a small island with a moat-like river that hugs its perimeter and runs off the side of the cliffs. A waterfall stands behind it on a more elevated part of the peak, and the cliff sides are covered in vines that attach neighboring floating islands to it. Many Na'vi live within the Hometree, but also within smaller caves in the immediate area and in the floating islands in tents. The ikran nestle within the cliffsides as well. Reaching Hometree can be a bit of a task on foot since it requires the climbing of large roots that snake up and over the land, but since many are ikran riders, they usually fly.

The Uk 'ìheyu Sä'eoio

The Uk'ìheyu clan is named after a certain move made while riding upon an ikran. Just like its name, the shadow spiral is a rite of passage for members of the Uk'ìheyu, the uk 'ìheyu sä'eoio. This can only be done during the most powerful storms, as indicated by the clan's tsahìk. To complete this, an ikran rider will climb the 'ìheyu spono, a series of floating islands that go upwards in a spiral, and reach the holy grounds at the top. They will first meditate before initiating the move. After meditation, they will call for their ikran and mount before entering the wind tunnel that forms there. The rider will then spiral on their ikran through the tunnel, facing harsh winds, rain, thunder, and lightning. The goal is not to fly out of control and to initiate a graceful landing on the ground. If completed, the ikran and their rider are revered as strong and skilled. They are then given gifts and an emblem for their accomplishment. By completing the uk 'ìheyu sä'eoio, they are considered to be closer to their ikran and closer to Eywa. This completed ritual is not required to be done, but will grant them more respect within the clan.

The Mentxatu Pänu

The Uk'iheyu greatly respect and love the ikran. It is no surprise that the ikran hold a special place even in their mating rituals. When two Na'vi are mated before Eywa, their wedding ceremony is immediately followed by a special ritual on their ikrans. The mated pair performs a synchronized flight upon their ikrans that lasts several minutes as a way to strengthen their relationship and newfound bond.
